Mercy-North Iowa Named A Community Value Hospital
MASON CITY, IA…Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa recently was recognized once again as a top-ranked Community Value Provider by Cleverley + Associates of Columbus, Ohio. Cleverley + Associates, a leading health care financial consulting firm specializing in operational benchmarking and performance enhancement strategies, released the findings as part of its new publication: State of the Hospital Industry — 2008 Edition. This is the third year Mercy has received this honor.
For the fifth year, the 2008 State of the Hospital Industry reports an exclusive measure developed by Cleverley + Associates: the Community Value IndexTM (CVI). The CVI is a proprietary index created to offer a measure of the value that a hospital provides to its community. The book outlines the data used to calculate the CVI as well as provides a list of the Top 100 and all Five-Star (top quintile) hospitals.
Measurement in these areas suggest that hospitals operating with a high degree of community value are those that are low cost, low charge, and use a strong financial position to reinvest back into the provision of care at the facility. Each area contains metrics that compare a hospital’s performance to an appropriate peer group. The combined performance in each area is the Community Value Index (CVI) score. Those hospitals with scores in the top twenty percent are designated as “Five Star” facilities. A subset of this group is the “Top 100” which contains the highest scoring facilities in the country. Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa’s performance achieved both designations.
