Laboratory Sevices
The practice of modern medicine would be impossible without the tests performed in the clinical laboratory. A medical team of pathologists, technologists, technicians, and support staff work together to determine the presence, extent, or absence of disease and provide data needed to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. A key aspect of a correct laboratory result is the specimen used for testing. Some tests require fasting or other preparation prior to specimen collection. It is important to follow any instructions provided by your physician prior to having a specimen collected for laboratory tests.
Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa's Laboratory performs approximately 1,700,000 tests annually for inpatients, outpatients, and Mercy Health Network - North Iowa Reference Laboratory patients. It is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and is licensed by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
